Vocational Experience:
March 2010 – Present Functional Check Out Technician (FCO/QC)
Arctic Slope Regional Corporation
Kuparuk Oilfield, North Slope Alaska
September 2009 – March 2010 Start-up Engineer/ Turnover Coordinator
Black Hills Power/Technical Diagnostics Services
20 Wyodak Road, Gillette, Wyoming
Start-up of BHP’s 115 MW coal fired facility. I am tasked with all aspects of document control including, redlining, updating, and supplying engineers and technicians with appropriate prints, and system data information. I have also developed a walk down system that tracks project deficiencies, summarizes by system and contractor, and generates on time reports to the client and project management staff. I conducted walk downs, generate deficiency list and through transmittals provide responsible contractors with this information for corrective action. I conduct safety meetings, lead work teams, and schedule task. Report directly to the Project Manager and solve construction inefficiencies and conflicts in coordinating task. Additionally, I am responsible for the efficient and timely manner that plant instrument and electrical systems are prepared. I use my knowledge in process instrumentation and turbine controls to direct diagnostic crews in the completion of commissioning and implementing Black Hills Power's initiatives.
September 2008 – August 2009 Functional Check Out Technician (FCO/QC)
Arctic Slope Regional Corporation
Kuparuk Oilfield, North Slope Alaska
Kuparuk is a 42-drill site incorporating three central processing facilities and producing 75,000 barrels of crude per day. I am largely responsible for capital and minor projects that include multimillion-dollar startups. I am tasked with all aspects of process instrumentation that includes system integrity, troubleshooting, solving engineering, commissioning, loop checking, faultfinding, and production oversights. I perform servicing, condition monitoring on H2s, IR detectors, fire and gas. Perform fault diagnosis and restorative tasks on Pneumatic and PLC based ESD systems.
January 2008 – September 2008 Senior Electrical and Instrument Technician
Kinross Corporation Montreal Quebec/Fort Knox Gold Mine
Fairbanks, Alaska
The Kinross Fort Knox Gold Mining operation is Alaska’s largest open pit gold producer yielding 1000 ounces per day of high-grade ore. The workforce consists of 400 employees including geologist, equipment operators, operations, maintenance mechanics, and my group of six.
During my tenure there I am largely responsible for significant increases in profitability. I accomplished this through repairing the 8MW Caterpillar generator set(s) and implementing a plant start-up utilizing the generator sets to offset grid conditions and low power factor (.67) of the twin 7000HP General Electric VFD motors. Additionally, I am credited with increased gold recovery by solving a decrease in electro winning capability and providing high availability and extended component life. I am tasked with all aspects of process instrumentation and electrical that includes system integrity, troubleshooting, solving engineering, commissioning, loop checking, faultfinding, and production oversights.
Duties also included responsibility for programming processor platforms, insuring system integrity, and responding 24/7 to production demands.
July 2007 – January 2008 Instrumentation Technician
Domtar Incorporated Montreal Quebec/Nekoosa Wisconsin Operations
Domtar’s Nekoosa operations consist of paper manufacturing, power generation (70 MW), chemical processes, and environmental wastewater recovery. Perform toxic gas monitoring on CO2, Oxygen, feed water analyzers including SO2. Repair and monitor fire ignition modules DFI, turbine controls, and flame detectors for fuel oil, gas, coal, recovery boilers.
Responsible for maintenance of day-to-day operations including Bailey Infi 90, field instrumentation, diagnosing and repairing faulty plant equipment. Provide coverage 24/7.
I was instrumental in the diagnostic spectrum of feed water chemical processes including Sodium analyzing, oxygen entrainment, and pH.
I monitored and recorded stack emissions for environmental compliance.
July 1990 – June 2007 Working Leader/ Instrumentation Technician/Electrician
Stora Enso Helsinki Finland/Wisconsin Rapids Operations
Stora Enso is the world’s third largest paper manufacturer consisting of over forty thousand employees with operations in 40 countries. The Wisconsin Operations include 3600 workforce entailing power generation, recovery, paper manufacturing, hydro operations, and forestry management.
In my responsibly during my tenure there I achieved an impressive work record by responding to an average of 75 call-outs and reporting to duty every day during my scheduled work.
Responsible for all plant process systems, that includes programming Bailey DCS, HMI configurations, ABB scanner platform systems, electrical/instrument installations, loop checking, commissioning, turbine controls, and provide 24/7 support. Experienced with most detection systems that includes heat detection, IR, nuclear, and laser.
Organized and directed others on capital projects, scheduled associates during routine maintenance periods.
I implemented head box chemical injection processes that resulted in savings of 250 thousand/year by reducing chemical make up in broke silo storage.
I am credited with a significant increase in savings and profitability by suggesting variable speed drives on white water screen recovery.
I was the key figure in the operation of product inventory and distribution by maintaining laser detection storage logistics.
October 1987 – June 1990 Instrumentation Technician
Commonwealth Edison, Braidwood Nuclear Facility/Braidwood Illinois
Braidwood Nuclear Facility is a 2600 Mega Watt power generation plant. This facility is known as a PWR Pressure Water Reactor using U235 as a reactor fuel. Meeting the employability requirements is rigorous that involved background checks, extensive testing, HSE compliance, and security clearances.
I was initially employed during start-up achieving criticality with both Unit 1 and Unit 2 with responsibilities for all DCS maintenance, plant instrumentation, turbine controls, and ancillary units.
